Government Cove Family Session
Let me talk to you about this epic Government Cove family session! As an Oregon family photographer, I’ve explored endless amazing locations for family sessions. From the sharp rock features, to the rolling alpine glow hills, the the warm field vibes to the overall scenic Columbia Gorge view- Government Cove has it all! When the Robinson family told me they wanted a gorge view, I knew Government Cove was the session spot they would love!
A Government Cove family session means that you will get the best the gorge has to offer. Maps apps won’t take you right there, so I recommend meeting in nearby Cascade Locks and caravaning to the session location together. I first discovered Government Cove for a session nearly a year ago + have shot there many times since. It’s one of my all time favorite session locations!
Government Cove- The Columbia Gorge
What makes a Government Cove family session so great is that there is endless space, whether to make teenagers feel comfortable or to let littles have the space and freedom to run around. It allows for space to breathe, relax + enjoy your family session in an epic scenic location. There are no tough hikes here, but short walks from view to view- also, a win-win in my book! Government Cove shows off in all seasons, but I think this Government Cove family session in the Fall may be one of my all time favorites. But hey, isn’t everything the best in the Fall?!
The rolling hills + epic gorge views paired with the space to be themselves set the mood of the session to be relaxed + fun. Just how family sessions should be. The warm fall sunset definitely added to the peace + beauty of the session!
Dress Warm!
I also loved the way this family dressed to compliment the season and this location. Cozy sweaters + jackets are a must when your family session is in the Columbia Gorge in late October! Dressing for the season is by far one of the easiest things you can do that will translate to a better family session experience! Especially with young kiddos- keep them warm, cozy + happy! The photos will show exactly that!
Cascade Locks/ Government Cove Nearby Food + Lodging
You may know, I always recommend making an experience out of sessions! So pack up the kiddos for a short getaway weekend to the Columbia Gorge for family photos, hikes and great views + food! Making a weekend out of your family session really adds to the fun of it for the whole family and definitely inspires a more connected family session for all!

- TO EAT: Eastwind Drive In! You have got to love a classic burger + ice cream spot! I always stop after sessions at Govenment Cove!
I’m so thankful the Robinson Family asked for a Columbia Gorge session- it was a true blast and such a fun time capturing their family in this sweet season of life!
